I'm sure there's still a lot of users have something older then IE7 who maybe are less aware of the benefits of using a browser like Firefox.

So when producing a design that will benefit mostly from transparent PNG's, is it really safe to do so if it means something like 40% of users finding ugly grey areas because their browser doesn't fully support the PNG format?

yum cookies Razz

I didn't know that, never really considered an image to be dangerous (unless it's questionable content).

Personally I'd find it much easier if everyone had browsers that support PNG transparency.

Well there's always blocky gifs.....
Btw there are a few tricks to faking transparency, like making the background color the same.

I've never seen this :s
I've seen this security issue before, but not with png... only with gif files .... and it was a php issue more than anything else...

Any request made to a server, can have a cookie request sent along with any data.
Of course cookies arent really an issue, its weather or not you allow the specific cookie to be saved.
Some cookies are good(chocolate chip)
Some cookies are bad(oatmeal raisin)

yes, there was a vulnerability in PNG, and I checked it with IE6 (not sure if it has been patched in IE7), and that png used to display a javascript alert messagebox Smile.. I saved ll that information on my cpmputer, I dont remember the link exactly, but I will look and post if I find that png and details on my computer..

i would not use it just yet, if you want transparent bg, just use a gif, as for png, sure its clean and crisp image, but file size is pretty big and also i believe ie doest support it all the time,

True, though I don't agree with what you say on file size as I've found PNG can be a similar size to GIF as long as it's optimized correctly.
